Susan Hanson, SSYWG Secretary:

Susan is a retired educator who taught reading skills to both students and teachers in Alaska, Hawaii and Micronesia before she retired to Shelton, Washington in 2008. She has always been an outdoor enthusiast who now looks forward to day hikes in the Olympics as well as walking in the neighborhood regularly for exercise.

Susan added yoga to her regular exercise routine in 2005 when her good friend, Pam Lau, moved next door and offered classes in a studio over her garage. At first, she was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to do the poses but as she soon learned, adapting an exercise to what one can do is perfectly ok and encouraged. She found the classes a good stress releaser, a strength builder and a way to connect with other like-minded, health-conscious people, many of which have become fast friends.

As the class expanded from an in-person class to Zoom classes, Susan has been able to continue her yoga practice when she travels and invite friends from other communities to join the group. Susan finds yoga to be a continual source of pleasure and a way to grow in flexibility, strength and balance. Her life has been enriched by her participation in the South Sound Yoga Wellness Group.
